We are not meant to win life, but rather, live it.”

ALAMEDA, CA, UNITED STATES, October 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Entrepreneur magazine has listed “Time Freedom: Rethink Your Work and Money to Create a Life You Love Now,” the new book by financial advisor Brian Herriot, first in its “5 Books That Redefine Success Beyond the Hustle.”

The list, published Oct. 7, also includes Scott Galloway’s “The Algebra of Happiness,” Mandy Balak’s “Chasing Enough,” Tonya Dalton’s “The Joy of Missing Out,” and Viktor E. Frankl’s “Man’s Search for Meaning.”

Entrepreneur said of “Time Freedom”: “Instead of treating [financial freedom] as a finish line, it shifts the goalposts entirely [to time freedom].”

Herriot argues that hustle culture has things backward. More hours and more effort don’t add up to a better life. “We are not meant to win life, but rather, live it,” he says.

Saying no to the grind is one thing. Building a career without it is harder. In Part 5 of the book, “Create Free and Flexible Work,” Herriot gives two practical tools for people who want to work for themselves without burning out.

1) A No-Hustle Transition to Entrepreneurship:
Most anti-hustle advice is aimed at people who already run their own businesses. Herriot also covers the step before that: leaving a salaried job. His No-Hustle Transition framework rests on three things to get right before making the jump.

> A proven service offering: Herriot says entrepreneurship doesn’t require a brand-new idea. “There are very few unique ideas,” he writes. He tells readers to turn the expertise they already use at work into a service. For example, a social media marketer can take on clients, and a regional finance director can work as a fractional CFO for several small companies.

> A strong, active network: One relationship built on trust can do more than months of cold outreach. “You already know a lot of people,” Herriot writes. “You’ve just forgotten about them.” The book lays out a simple plan for reconnecting with 50 people over a year.

> The right entrepreneurial skills: Every field has a few skills that matter most, and the rest can wait. For a lifestyle-focused entrepreneurial business, Herriot names three: customer service, sales, and cash management.

He suggests giving the transition up to a year, while a paycheck still covers the bills. That leaves time to fill gaps, build the network, and test the business without financial pressure.

2) One Catalyst Instead of More Grind:
Herriot’s second tool replaces doing more with doing one thing well. “Convention tells us that to get 10% better at our job, we should do everything we’re currently doing 10% harder, 10% faster, or 10% longer,” he writes. “But that’s just more grind.”

Instead, he asks readers to find their “Catalyst.” That’s the single strategic move only they can make to grow their business exponentially. Protecting time is what makes this work. When there’s no room to do everything, people are forced to find the one thing that counts.

According to Herriot, a Catalyst usually falls into one of three categories: a skill, an idea, or a relationship. It works best where someone holds an unfair advantage, meaning they have something others don’t. It helps even more if they love doing it, because they’ll keep going after others give up.

Herriot adds that skipping the hustle doesn’t mean thinking small. U.S. Census Bureau data show that 519,793 one-person businesses earned more than $500,000 in 2022, up 52% from 2017.

About “Time Freedom” and the Author:
“Time Freedom” is endorsed by Cal Newport, author of “Deep Work”; Héctor García, co-author of “Ikigai”; and Mike Michalowicz, author of “Profit First.” The Next Big Idea Club named it the first September 2026 must-read in Personal Finance. Page Two published the book on Sept. 15.
