New guidance explains how companies can be found and accurately represented when candidates research employers through AI systems.

SHERIDAN, WY, UNITED STATES, September 15, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- New guidance from the United States Institute for Quality explains how companies can be found and accurately represented when job candidates research employers through AI systems such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google.

The United States Institute for Quality (USIQ) has published a practical, 90-day plan that helps employers build AI search visibility, meaning the degree to which a company appears, and is described correctly, in answers generated by AI systems. The guidance addresses a fast-growing challenge for recruiting teams: job candidates increasingly research potential employers through AI assistants rather than only through classic search results or career pages.

The shift is measurable. According to a 2025 study by the job-search platform Huntr, around 93 percent of job seekers report using AI tools such as ChatGPT during their search. Analyses by the research firm SparkToro found that roughly 68 percent of United States Google searches ended without a click in early 2026, up from about 60 percent two years earlier. As more decisions form inside AI-generated answers, the way an employer is represented in those answers has become an important recruiting factor, according to Scharfenberg.

The new plan is built around Generative Engine Optimization, or GEO, the practice of preparing content and company information so that AI systems can find, understand and cite it accurately. Structured in three phases, the plan begins with a technical and factual audit, moves to building evidence such as verifiable facts and employee perspectives, and ends with ongoing measurement. It also introduces a short quality check, referred to as the 5C test, which asks whether a page is clear, credible, citable, consistent and connected before it is published.

"The goal is not to trick the systems, but to become the kind of employer an AI system can represent accurately and confidently," said PhDr. Oliver Scharfenberg, MBA, the marketing expert featured in the guidance and author of The AI Visibility SEO and GEO Playbook. "When a company is clear in how it presents itself, credible in its evidence and consistent across channels, it is far more likely to be named when a candidate asks an AI which employers are worth considering."

The plan also encourages employers to measure results by querying AI systems directly with a fixed set of recurring prompts, for example whether a company is considered a good employer, and to track how the answers change over time. "Clicks and rankings now tell only half the story," Scharfenberg said. "Asking the systems the same questions on a regular schedule turns a vague impression into a benchmark a team can actually manage."

The recommendations align with published research on how generative systems select sources. A 2024 academic paper on Generative Engine Optimization by Aggarwal and colleagues reported that adding credible citations, quotations and statistics to content increased its visibility in AI-generated answers, while keyword stuffing had little effect.
